WE SETTLE DOWN TO THE NEW NORMAL WITH A WINGRIP TRAINING FOR AIRBUS

On July 14 we were finally able to deliver the Wingrip Twin-Line and AIO Install and Use training to the Airbus A400M maintenance specialists at the Spanish Air Force Base in Seville. This training, initially scheduled for May, had to be postponed until July due to the Covid 19 lockdown.

The training was delivered to mechanics, both civilian and military, in charge of maintenance of the A400M transport plane at the Tablada (Maestranza Aérea de Sevilla) Air Force facility. For safety reasons, participants practiced installing the fall protection systems on the floor of the brand new hangar housing the A400M – which was so spotless that the system’s vacuum anchors performed just as well as if they were installed on the aircraft’s metal surface!  The facilities were so new that we had trouble finding a compressed air line with a coupling compatible with the Wingrip vacuum module. However, this was soon solved thanks to the ingenuity of the mechanics taking the course. They were actually so keen that they willingly agreed to stay on after their usual knocking-off time in order to finish the course and make sure they had absorbed all its content.

Also deserving credit is the contribution of Kolab’s two new training assistants José María and María José (any resemblance with IKEA mannequins is purely coincidental), who helped illustrate the consequences of a fall without suitable protection.
We look forward to giving more training courses soon – even if we still have to wear a facemask – to ensure that these temporary fall protection systems for aircraft construction and maintenance are installed and used safely.
